On stage, our compere will be John Peel, who should take an anti-Cruise style for the next few hours through some of the following bands: Madness, The Funboy Three, maybe the Belle stars, sott cen, a reggae bana, a jazz/folk band, and others. Intermittently comedians, like Rik Mayall, Neil Innes and political poet Linton Kwesi-Johnston will step in, perhaps to introduce one of the following speakers: Keh Livingtone, a woman from Greenham, a Youth CND speaker, and somebody from the local community.

To date, none of the above has definitely confirmed that they're playing, although Paul Wellar is defin: itely sponsoring the event, as is Two Tone Record Company.

Apart from the very important cultural aspect of the festival, don't let us forget what it's all about -stopping the bomb. YOUTH CND, besides launching a Festival Appeal Fund and the Festival itself, have two other projects in action at the moment.

We've launched a national 'Refuse the Cruise' petition, and during the week Feb 7-11 there's a national Week of Action Against Unemployment and Trident.

The leaflet produced for the Week of Action is designed to make direct links between unemployment and spending on arms. Different Youth CND groups in the areas have taken on various activities in the Week of Action. In Çoventry, for example, we are leafletting schools, FE Colleges, YOPs centres, the dole queues, and Careers and Job Centres. We start the Week by launching the National Petiton in the town centre - hopefully; with local councillors, di. MPs, and celebraties - and we'll be finishing the Week off with a Day of Events Against the Bomb on Saturday, 12th, where we'll be launching our next venture: mobilisation for the May 7 Festival.

Leaflet If you are not in a YCND group, then why not start one by ordering copies of the leaflet f1/hundred) from the Youth CND address, and go from there. It's Or, if you're in a LPYS very easy to set up a group. branch, get your Secretary to order a load, and get the YS to give them out.

Whatever, make sure you get the national petition (also from the YCND address). ised around.

LIKE Wallasey, YSs all over the country are dismayed at the way the NC hasn't organised to build YCND nor its activities like the Youth March for Jobs Not Bombs to the Labour Party Conference.

There it is, the largest growing youth movement in Britain, and what does the YS do? - instead of getting involved building it we ständ on the sidelines leafletting, telling YCND about socialism and the need to nationalise the armaments industry. Implication? We won't participate until YCND has a bold socialist programme.

Class Fighter will take up the call from Wallasey: we want to see the Y$ nationPete Cashman for Wallasey YS ally buriving the May Festival, with every branch working with local YCND (or setting up one).

Class Fighter wants a large and open YCND - inside it we fight for the Labour Movement orientation which will drive out the liberals and pacifist influences which weaken CND and take youth away from socialist ideas.

If we are going to convince YCND acitivists that socialists are right — only the labour movement can bring about total nuclear disarmament and so win activists to the YS, we have to be the best builders - we have to earn a hearing.
