The Leyland Toolroom Committee's meeting on 8 February passed the following resolution:

"That this committee invite all craft members to support a claim for Toolroom and allied craftsmen to be paid £90 per week from 1 March 1978 in accordance with the common rate contained within the company's document and assurance given by national officials, June 1978. Further the immediate introduction of the National Agreement"

This is the first time that this committee, led by Roy Fraser, has actually come out with a figure.

After two years of Fraser's shadow boxing about "differPHOTO: John Sturrock, Report Fraser entials' and "parity" the skilled workers in Leyland are treating this like a breath of fresh air.

Already the response can be seen by the willingness of the toolmakers in Cowley to strike and they are now, for the first time ever holding a joint mass meeting with all the other skilled workers in the Cowley Body Plant.

The Leyland skilled men have lost the most out of the company's refusal to pay parity (in Cowley, £10 a week) and the premium rates, because they do the most overtime.

This is the case in all the Leyiand plants and not only are sections like the toolmakers joining with the committee but joint mass meetings with other skills are widespread.
