Shop stewards at Talbot's Ryton plant last week voted overwhelmingly to call off their picket of the Management and Research plant at Whitley.
This picket had been put on the previous Wednesday following a march from Ryton of some 300-400 strikers.
The danger of this step back from stopping management going in to work will demoralise workers regularly involved in picketing.
There has been UNION DUES able speculation in the capitalist press around supposed offers from Peugeot Citroen to increase the 5½% offer in return for increased productivity and loss of tea-breaks.
Strongly denied
This rumour was strongly denied by Talbot's UK boss George Turnbull who said that the offer remained 52% and no more.
Despite these denials it is likely that Talbot will aim to end the strike by offering a small increase and a productivity deal.
The original claim of AT THE MATT 25% can still be won.
Workers from the Stoke plant have had a good response to their visits to dockers in South Wales.
This must be built on by a determined effort to close all the ports to imported Talbot cars.
At the same time there must be a call for the AUEW to make the strike official and most important its isolation must be broken.
The engineers must be brought out on all-out strike as must all others who are fighting the determination of the employers and the government to hold down wage increases.
I CANT FACE IT- A MASS MEETING OF THAT DAMN HOSPITAL LOT AND I'VE RUN OUT OF LEFT SPEECHES..
QUICK-TAKE OVER JACK! JUST WATCH ME! NO SWEATSO WHAT WENT WRONG?
