Campaign for Democracy in the Labour ¡or mass action against Tory anti-union lav #Strikes and occupations against the cuts!

Saturday November 3, 10.30am-5pm pen to all trade unionists and delegations Details and credentials (£1, claimants 5C from CDLM, 99, Barclay Rd, Warley AS PATRIOTIC Front leaders announced on Monday their willingness to accept a guarantee that 20% of parliamentary seats in Zimbabwe should be reserved for whites, the stage saoms set to clinch the reactionary constitutional deal that the Tory government has fought so hard to concoct.

Parliamentary deal

Behind the occasional "Marxist"' rhetoric of Patriotic Front leaders Nkomo and Mugabe, there has been a consistent thrust towards a bourgeois parliamentary settlement in Zimbabwe. Hence their attendance at the London conference.

It now remains to be seen how long it takes the Tories and their varied assortment of would-be clients to fit together the remaining pieces in the puzzle-and what response will be forthcoming from the Patriotic Front's mass supporters at present maintaining the bush war against the racist state.

ick Burgh Hall, off Dumbarton I GLASGOW From front one with Callaghan in rejecting any call for the mass, extraparliamentary working class action that is required to bring down the Tory government and force through the nationalisation of basic industry and the banks, without compensation under workers' management.

They recognise that such a movement would create conditions for workers to sweep aside not only Callaghan and his crypto-Tory supporters at every level in the party, but also to expose their own hollow '"socialist" rhetoric.

With nothing to offer but a hotch-potch of "radical" reforms within capitalism, the 'left' Labourites would then stand themselves revealed as an obstacle to the necessary struggle for a socialist planned economy and a government truly responsive to the interests of the working class.

For such a struggle a revolutionary leadership is vital. The Workers Socialist League fights throughout the labour movement to build such a leadership.
