Labour's left talking Atkinson showed once again last Saturday the hypocrisy of Labour leaders when it comes to fighting the cuts.
Speaking "at a Regional Labour Party Rally against the cuts in Aylesbury Atkinson bored most of the audience with his pet economic theories about the conflict between the 'city' and 'manufacturing' interests.
He failed to put forward a single fighting policy for action to stop the cuts.
Alongside this waffle came the usual left talk about the Atkinson need fór a "socialist movemen with socialist policies to trans form the system"
But even this was coupler with the guarded statement tha The Labour Party must strivi at all times to achieve unity".
After Atkinson had spoker one local GMC membe challenged his record fightin the cuts and called on Atkinsor to reply to one simple question "How are we going to fight thi cuts?"
Atkinson replied by declar ing we need a "mass protest"of writing letters to the press petitions and publicity.
He definitely ruled out any industrial action by admittin| "I'm not an advocate of oper industrial warfare."
When asked to defend hi previous record under thi Labour government which has carried out a succession of Tor! policies Atkinson was stuck fo an answer-and, in the words o every embarassed opportunis replied to the young apprentic: who had asked the question b! saying: "My young friend, wi don't go back over history, th important thing is what to de today!"
So devoid are Labour's 'lefts of any perspective for actuall! fighting the cuts that Atkinson in his speech, even failed tr mention the mass lobby of Parli ament on November 28 whicl the Labour Party is supposed tr be supporting.
