Editor, was disappointed on reading issue No. 231 of Socialist Press of 21 January to see no reference to the attempted assassination of Bernadette and. Michael McAliskey by the UDA, which took place on 16 January.

I would have expected Socialist Press to have a major article on the assassination attempt Meroney s attamnt. and/nr Mr Alickey's contribution to the anti-imperialist struggle, especially as both the capitalist press and all the other left papers had covered the story in depth.

If an article was left out for space reasons, in my opinion, it would have been much more relevant to our understanding of the Irish struggle to have included it rather than the letter LA GAINA 44Д from Joe Quigley on Ireland printed in the same issue. Press only two paragraphs were devoted to the attempted assassination and no tribute was made to Bernadette McAliskey's 12 years consistent work as a socialist against British rule in Ireland, including her leading role in, the recent H BlockArmagh hunger strike campaign.

Also while I agree that the Provisional's ieturn to a policy of bombing and shooting civilians only isolates them from the working class and does nothing to further the Irish struggle I feel that it was unnecessary to devote most of the article to an attack on the republican movement.

Yours fraternally, Marie Campbell *Comrade Campbell raises valid criticism. We will endeavour to redress the balance
