Am I right in assum ing from your article (SP233 which correctly opposed the ›IE trial, that Socialist Press also supports paedophilia?
TR WE REPLY: Neither Socialist Press nor the Workers Socialist League has any position for or against paedophilia. As the article in SP 233 points out the issue is one which raises "special problems and controversy even'on the left" • The purpose of our article was not to advocate the case for or against paedophilia but 1) to oppose the conspiracy trials of the four leaders of the Paedophile Information Exchange; 2) to oppose the persecution of paedophiles; and 3) to challenge the reactionary and oppressive attitudes towards sexuality which the right wing opponents of PIE are seeking to reinforce.
The debate will continue. Socialist Press upholds only the principle of opposing sexual relations of any kind involving coercion.
