Foresthall on the north east side of Glasgow is a vast Victorian home.

In the earlier part of this century it was used as a workhouse for the unfortunate working class families who were no longer able to pay off debts.

Today it is used as a home for the mentally ill, single homeless and geriatrics.

That was up until recently when the AHA announced that the main block Dornoch and kitchen facilities were to be closed in April with the loss of 250 jobs and 106 beds. • The kitchen has an important role to play not only in the Foresthall but also in the meals on wheels service in Glasgow and also the schools service. and the GWU have said that the patients will not be moved except for medical reasons.

The staff have received support from Glasgow District NALGO and are seeking support of the ambulancemen and bus In order to prevent the AHA from removing patients the staff must occupy Dornoch Mainhome and also the stores and kitchen facilities and extend their fight to all unions in the Glasgow public services.
